ONE BILL, CLEAR NEXT STEPS

From recording a bill to settling up

Stay clear about who paid, what everyone agreed to, and what has been repaid.

01

Record the expense

From Add Transaction, choose Expense and select Split this expense. Enter the total bill and details.

02

Choose payer and shares

Add the participants, choose who paid, then select Equally or Exact amounts before saving.

03

Review who owes whom

Review the split obligations and relevant people-ledger entries. Obligations between other people stay with the split.

04

Record a repayment

When money changes hands outside Nivora, record the repayment on the split and keep the remaining amount up to date.

FLEXIBLE SHARES

Equal when it's simple. Exact when it isn't.

Not every purchase is divided the same way. Nivora supports the two choices shown in the real Split dialog, with a review of each person's share before you save.

Equal or custom bill splits

Equal: divide a $120 bill among three people and each share is $40. Nivora handles equal-share rounding for totals that do not divide perfectly.

Exact amounts

Exact: set You $50, Alex $45 and Sam $25. The shares add up to $120, reflecting what everyone agreed to pay.

TRANSPARENT BY DESIGN

Keep the bill and its context together

Know which shared activity a cost belongs to and keep supporting details easy to find.

Separate books

Use a dedicated book for a household, trip or activity so its transactions stay separate from unrelated spending.

Receipts and notes

Include the bill's description and optional attachments as part of the shared transaction record.

Repayment history

See recorded settlement amounts against the outstanding obligations and reverse a repayment if needed.

People statements

Review and share a person's ledger statement for the balances that involve you. Other people's split-only obligations remain with the split.

Your agreement stays yours

You choose who participated and who paid. Nivora can calculate equal shares or accept exact amounts for each person; it never decides the agreement for you and it does not transfer money between people. Repayments can be recorded in the split ledger.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions about splitting expenses

How do I split a shared expense?

Start with an expense, select Split this expense, choose the payer and participants, then divide the bill Equally or by Exact amounts.

Where do the balances appear?

The saved split shows who owes whom. Your linked lend/borrow amounts can appear in your People balance; obligations solely between other people stay on the split.

Does Nivora collect repayments?

No. Money moves outside Nivora. Record a repayment against the relevant split obligation to update what remains owed.

Can I track costs for different groups?

Yes. Keep books for household, travel or other purposes, and review each shared expense separately.
